Some women – may Allaah
guide them – dress their young daughters in short clothes which show the calves. When
we advise these mothers, they say, “We used to dress like this and it did not affect
us when we grew up.” What do you think about this?

Praise be to Allaah.

I think that a person should not let his or
her daughter wear such clothes when she is little, because if she gets used to wearing
such clothes when she is little, she will continue to do so when she gets older, and it
will not be such a big issue for her. But if she gets used to dressing modestly from a
young age, she will continue to dress modestly when she gets older. What I advise our
Muslim sisters to do is to shun the clothing of foreigners who are the enemies of our
religion and to get their daughters used to wearing covering clothes and to the idea that
modesty is part of religion.
